I went to Waco to cover the Copperas Cove student who was suspended for answering his cell phone in class... but his dad was on the other line in Iraq.  I think suspending the student was too harsh.  The time he has to talk to his dad is limited and I think the school could have handled the situation differently.  I also question the school for not calling back his parents to discuss the situation.  Do you think the student should have been suspended for this?

There are extenuating circumstances here. I don't know the whole story, but had that been my child, and his Dad was calling from Iraq, I would be sitting in front of the Supt. of Schools in Waco and he would not have been the one doing the talking.

I realize that the school has rules that must be followed, but should a war hero have to wait for the school to say when he can speak with his son? I don't think so. He may be going into a hostile situation in five minutes and this may be his last chance to tell his son that he loves him.
Does the school have a right? Sure, but cut the kid and his hero dad some slack!
