This morning I woke up wondering what would happen if all of a sudden gas prices doubled. Right now here in Austin gas is around $3.45 to $3.60 a gallon, and I wonder what would happen if in one day gas went to $7.22 a gallon. What would we the people do? We know it's coming, they know it's coming, and we all are just waiting for it.

Of course, you might think I'm nuts, yet think about it seriously for a moment. World oil prices are set by speculators based on what they think the supply and demand will be sometime in the future, right? That is what we're told, yet you have to understand the oil companies have something to do with it since when the price of oil goes down (as happened a couple of days ago), the price of gas still goes up. So oil companies, for all of their denials, have a lot to do with the price of gas.

Given that, what is to stop them from doubling the price right away? Not Congress, of course, since they don't seem to know what to do. It would be up to us, and what would we do?

It's bad enough being herded, yet being herded over a cliff is something I think we should avoid.

I myself thought about what I would do, I have a bicycle but it’s really dangerous to ride it in Austin wow people really don’t care much for cyclist, I was able to travel to very poor countries and they used donkeys hooked up to carts or bicycles but my neighbor would have a heart attack if I was boarding a donkey in my back yard, what concerns me also is what happens when it’s to expensive for truckers to bring in food or other goods this is more than just getting around town, very scary and yet it seems to be just around the corner.

All that it would mean to me is that I would have to charge more to do service work.

Same thing it will mean to the Oil companies if ignorant uneducated congressional representatives have their way and try to start stealing profits from them.

They will pass the cost right along to you the consumer.

I would think a whole lot more people would start working from home if they could. Why drive to work and back to sit in a cubicle in front of a computer when you can do your work from home? Companies save money on electricity, water, coffee, etc., and employees save money on gas and time spent sitting in traffic.

Telecommuting should be taken advantage of whenever possible.

I noticed gas is now $3.67 at the Shell station on Jollyville last night on my way home from work. This might be an inflated number, though, since this station is always higher than others since it is near the Arboretum.

I have lived in Austin for 24 years and refuse to be a mindless follower of anything. Just let me have the facts and I will be objective.
