Congress recessed for five weeks without passing any energy legislation. Oil prices, though lower the past week, are still at record highs, and there seems to be no one interested in cutting the flow of foreign oil to our shores. No one interested in stopping the flow of dollars heading overseas, either.

Republicans want offshore drilling, of course. That will end the speculators dreams and that might lower gas prices eventually. At the least it will curb our appetite for foreign oil and keep more money here at home. It will also drive the enviromentalists (a very powerful group) nuts.

Democrats want to add more taxes to the oil companies, which will absolutely raise gasoline prices since that tax will be passed on to the consumer. They also have their 'use it or lose it' law, which commands oil companies to drill on the leases they currently have or lose those leases. The dirty little secret you don't hear is that those leases have no oil. None. Profit-driven oil companies would drill on their mothers if there was a chance of oil, so don't be fooled by the partisanship on this issue.

Forget about partisanship for one moment and use common sense: if these are the only two plans, which is more beneficial to America and Americans?

Regardless, this post is for all of the elected officials we elected (remember the 'change' we thought was coming?). This is for them:

Take that break, Congress. You've done nothing this year that helps the average American, why should five more weeks of inaction bother us?

Great post, Delusion. I would add an addendum, though...AND DON'T COME BACK!
