City Manager Mark Ott Under Attack

News
Mark Ott is taking some heat from self appointed Hispanic Community Leaders. Apparently they were not happy with his response to their meeting with him where they questioned his decision making skill when he fired two high ranking city officials who happen to be, you guessed it, Hispanic.
I am a little curious as to why they felt the need to take their displeasure to the public and the media before trying to resolve their concerns with the city council first. They come across as crybabies having a tantrum. I vote for fairness for all ethnic groups.
Keep in mind I am neither hispanic or black. It doesn't bother me that we have a black city manager who doesn't bow to the special interests groups no matter their color. That shows me has a backbone and won't be intimidated. I hope he doesn't change.
What do you think? and please keep it real.
Hamiltons taking the heat...

Sheriff Gregg Hamilton is taking some heat from elected officials about allowing ICE agents into the jails. The elected officials (Mike Martinez, Commisioner Gomez, and others), have tried to turn this into a political issue. Mike Martinez said on television that Sheriff Hamilton should have gotten public input , etc. Personally, I think that is a load of crap. Since when does the sheriff need to request public input before he makes a decision? Have these officials lost their mind?
Sheriff Hamilton has said that the ICE agents have been there all along and he intends to continue to build relationships with them and other law enforcement agencies. There is nothing illegal about enforcing the laws.
I support Sheriff Hamilton 100% and will remember these other officials who tried to undermine him at election time.
Growing up loving country music was part of my life. I had always liked Willie Nelson and enjoyed his music. I was disappointed to know that he was in trouble for tax evasion from the IRS several years ago. I believe in second chances. It just seems he has continued to go down hill. He then began to advocate smoking pot. Then he was in trouble with the law for it.
He has gotten himself involved politically with some way to liberal for me people. He just seemed to totally go against everything that conservative southern country folk agree with. The final blow for me was the report that he actually believes 911 was an inside job. People involved in that movement are, in my opinion, delusional and paranoid. That is the most ridiculous accusation I have ever heard and I am disturbed that he would even suggest it.
So much for Willie.
From what I understand the students at Austin High vandalized school property and their parents got mad when they were expected to pay for the clean up. What the hell is wrong with these parents??? I think all of their other complaints like the principal not attending sports events, etc. is just petty and makes them look childish.
Furthermore, they should have followed through with their complaints without the help of the media. Anyone with any sense knows that was only done to further their campaign to oust this principal.
I am not saying they may not have some issues and strife here, but it can't be all one sided.
Annoying Accent

Ok, I have a pet peeve about the voice of a Fox 7 reporter. Her name is Nancy Zambrano and it drives me nuts. She has a thick accent and I cringe everytime I hear her speak. I tune out each time she does a story. I just don't like it.

I have logged on for several days now and still see the same old blogs. Are the bloggers blogging or is Fox 7 being a slacker?
It's getting boring around here.
City Manager Does It Again

Lets all hear a round of applause for the City Manager. She has once again broken the law and violated an officers rights. Where is integrity? How can justice be served with injustice? If there must be an investigation about an investigation then so be it, but do it right. Now the City might be investigated about an investigation that needed to be investigated and now needs to be investigated again. What a load of crap.
Go Acevedo!
Chief of Police, Art Acevedo

I have to admit I was a little concerned about Art Acevedo as our new chief of police. I am pleasantly surprised at his support of our officers and making himself visible to the community. I am impressed with the way he has handled himself and I think the new ideas he has for changing the department have thus far been exceptional.
This is truly a day to mark down in the recent history of Austin that the city has actually made a decent decision.
City to Ban Signs....Please

What a dumb idea! Not because I don't think the signs can make a nice neighborhood look trashy, but these are the same idiots who refuse to ban pan handlers who carry worse signs than the ones planted in the ground. That doesn't make any sense at all. Don't they think that we are tired of seeing the beggers on the street corners? I would rather see the advertisements.
I know there are many people in our city who agree, even the Chief of Police, Art Acevedo. They need to get a backbone and tell the ACLU to jump in the creek.
Gas Prices Are Up Again

This just really gets me all upset. I would like to know what their excuse is now??? First, they blamed it all on Katrina.....well Katrina has cost me, the tax payer, enough already. Then they say it's the high demand of summer and everybody is driving more and going on vacation. Not to mention it costs more to make environmentally friendly gas in the summer. I say BullSh_t.
Ok, it's fall and summer is over, demand is down....why is there a problem now?? Oh I see, their pockets aren't quite fat enough.
This leads me to another question....why the hell do we still depend on foreign oil. Why are we not drilling in Alaska? Why the hell did Bush give these gas companies subsidies to build more refineries if they aren't building any???

Ha! He deserved what he got. His parents should have marched his butt home and taken care of that attitude he had. He was totally disrespectful and refused to go to the principals office. He refused to comply with the officers demands. He obviously is rebellious and has no respect for authority which leads me to believe he probably is 100% guilty of eating that slice of pizza.
It is a shame his parents are enabling his bad behavior, guilty or not. Wake up people. I am so sick of seeing parents saying how their little "mijo" is so good and yet has a rap sheet from here to forever.
school dress code

I completely support the school district in sending the girl with the "Juicy Angel" shirt home. How nieve can her mother be? I can't for the life of me figure out why a mother would want to exploit her daughter and make her a target for every pervert in the neighborhood. Have you not seen to catch a predator? It's time to grow up women and get your head out of the sand. We all know the only reason a girl would wear clothing like this is to draw attention to the "juicy" areas of her body. And all of you guys know I'm right.
These girls are children and parents should set guidelines and boundaries for what is appropriate to wear and what is not, especially in an educational setting.
Universal Health Care Joke

I am surprised at the number of American citizens who want to create a national health care system. Do you really want the government to control your health? Do you really want the government to decide what treatment you can or cannot get? How much freedom are you willing to give up for health care?
What would be next? Big brother decides what treatment you will be forced to have based on DNA. Big brother refuses cancer treatment for ex-smoker, Big brother denying coverage to obese patients.
Who is going to pay for this? Will doctors lose their freedom and be forced to treat persons with national coverage? Will they receive adequate compensation or the bare minimum like with Medicaid? Will this discourage current or would be medical students from persuing a career in health care?
Just remember there is no such thing as free health care? Somebody, somewhere is going to pay. I think this is a huge mistake and only hope they can bring the cost of health care down so it will be more affordable for everyone.
Austin needs a district attorney like the one in Williamson County. John Bradley rocks! We need more men like him who will be tough on crime. He sends a tough message to thugs that they will not get off easy like here in Travis County. I am so impressed each time he interviews with Fox 7 or anyone else. Williamson County should serve as an example to Travis County. Next time there is an election voters need to pay attention. If you are sick of the crime in this city then show up and vote.
Bikes and Bicyles

I think it is great that people are becoming more aware of bikers and cyclists on the road: however, I have two questions:
1) Why do they zoom in and out of lanes of traffic as if they do not have to follow the same laws people in cars do?
2) Why do they pass vehicles on the shoulder?
It just seems insane to complain about cars not being careful when these people are breaking every safety rule in the book. Nothing ticks me off more than some meat head on a bike (especially a bicycle) who thinks they own the road. I slow down. I move over. I go around. Then, there they are beside me again at the stop sign, or light, ready to take off at the same time I do. Excuse me, weren't you behind me? I was under the impression they had to wait their turn like everybody else in line.
