How quickly things can change out in the tropics in August! The National Hurricane Center is now watching a cluster of thunderstorms off the Florida Panhandle for potential development. They give this feature a 20 to 50 percent chance of development over the next couple days. Most of our computer forecast models move this feature in the Texas direction, but disagree on whether or not it will develop, or exactly which part of the Texas coast it may impact. Either way, the system will have to be watched. There are signs that rain from this system could start on the Texas Coast as early as Tuesday, and some of it could spread north into Central Texas Tuesday into Wednesday. We need this rain, but with so much uncertainty in the forecasts, we will keep the chances low for now.

Two other tropical waves are across the central tropical Atlantic right now. They are moving westward, and will have to be watched for some development as well!
