In this week's Zack's Weather Facts I talked about the record start to the tornado season. Just last week another deadly tornado outbreak hit the U.S. This time in Arkansas where 7 people lost their lives. The National Weather Service checked out the damage and came up with 11 tornadoes hit the area. One was an EF-3 that stayed on the ground from 45 miles!!!

This is the peak time for tornadoes. Tornadoes can happen any time of the year but the season normally goes from March to June. On average, 26 people are killec each April by tornadoes while May comes in second with 19. The death toll so far this year is at 76 and keep in mind the yearly average is 62.

So far this year 587 twisters have roamed the U.S. From January to April 486 tornadoes were reported breaking the old record of 467 (1999) during this time frame.

If this keeps up 2008 may turn out to be the year of the twister.
